

Muscat: The National Committee for Emergency Management (NCEM) has urged fishermen to stay away suspected pollution area, avoid fishing in the from the affected sites and report oil spill to the relevant authorities.

The Food Safety and Quality Center (FSQC) on Saturday confirmed the safety and quality of the fish samples that have completed their testing and met the approved safety requirements, while some samples are still undergoing completion of laboratory tests.
The Environment Authority (EA) on Saturday said that it continued to carry out monitoring, follow-up, and response operations regarding the oil pollution. Latest field results indicate that approximately 12 km of coastline in the Ras Madrakah area has been affected. Response operations are currently underway on site, while no significant traces of pollution have been observed at other locations.
Monitoring results also confirm that no impacts from the oil pollution have reached the shores of Masirah Island, the southern part of which falls within the zone of potential influence.
